Zenit-12xp is a Soviet SLR camera with a TTL light meter and M-42 thread mount, produced from 1983 to 2000 at the KMZ plant. The Zenit-12xp camera is an improved version of the Zenit-TTL camera.

This is a fully mechanical camera with a TTL CdS light meter. The meter works simply through two LED that we can see in the viewfinder, if the upper led is on it's too bright, if the lower led is on, it's too dark. The film sensitivity scale is measured in GOST, a soviet scale that's close to the ASA/ISO, but its not quite there.

Apart from the obvious advantage of independence from a light meter, the sunny 16 rule can also aid in achieving correct exposure of difficult subjects. As the rule is based on incident light, rather than reflected light as with most camera light meters, very bright or very dark subjects are compensated for.

The 12, like the 12XP, has TTL metering, meaning that it meters through the lens. Speaking of the lens, it comes with the fantastic Helios 58mm f./2 which is a lens everyone should own, as it creates sharp photos with great colours and fantastic bokeh.

Zenit 12xp Light Meter Repair Hey guys, I own a Zenit 12xp film camera and i cannot make the light meter work. It fundamentally has 2 LED's that indicate if the frame is overexposed or underexposed.

Has a selenium meter (dead by now in most units) and NO mechanism for automatic diaphragms (you can only use lenses with preset apertures). EM=Same as above but has automatic diaphragm support

Turn the rewind crank to take up the slack, then it should turn when you advance the film.

.From your photo, your 12s ("Snaiper", for use with a pistol grip) looks like it takes one PX625 battery, the same as the earlier Zenit TTL. I have a Zenit 12XP, which takes two 386 batteries, but they fit tightly in the compartment.

A Zenit 12xp with a Helios 44M-4 F2 lens, plus a fujica mini half frame camera, for only 40 euros! After a examining the two cameras the Zenit seemed to be in a very good condition although it hadn't been used for more than a decade..
